Our Program

Day 3-16

Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction

We do Early Neurological Stimulation because it has been proven to improve cardiovascular performance, heart rate, stronger heart beats and adrenal glands. It also builds more tolerance to stress and a greater resistance to disease. Early Scent Introduction helps with nose awareness, improves their sense of smell, and builds confidence.

Week 3

10 Step Handling Exercises

We start 10 step handling with our puppies at 3 weeks old. We do this to help desensitize the puppies to touch. Not all of the puppies will love this but we want them to be compliant with being handled and touched. As the puppies get older we slightly increase pressure. It is very beneficial in the long run as it will make grooming and vet visits a more enjoyable experience overall.

1. Rub ears
2. Cover eyes
3. Open mouth and run fingers on gums
4. Rub belly in circular motions
5. Run hand down back
6. Run hand and fingers along tail
7. Touch all paws
8. Tap nails
9. Run fingers around neck and under ribbon/collar
10. Touch their nose

Novelty Items and Loud Noise Exposure

During week 3 we also introduce loud noises and novelty items to the puppies. The loud noise exposure is for short brief sessions, this could be vacuuming or hitting a spoon on a pot 3 times.  The novelty items are used to build trust and curiosity. These items are usually household items that your pup will encounter in everyday life.

Novelty Item Examples:
Pillow
Apples
Rolled up towel
Fake plants / Flowers
Stuffed animal(s)
Soccer ball
Fabrics

Week 4-6

Exposure Activities

When the puppies are 4 weeks old they are introduced to new age appropriate challenges and experiences in addition to the 10 step handling exercises. During this time they are introduced to crate training, exposed to new sounds and smells, toys, and different places to explore and develop. We do this to continue to build the puppies’ confidence. We want to empower them and not enable them. This builds their trust in humans and helps them feel safe.

Grooming & Deworming

We also start getting the puppies comfortable with grooming by giving them gentle baths, clipping their nails, and blow drying. This breed’s coat requires regular maintenance and exposing the puppies to this type of touch and handling will be helpful when going to the groomers.

The first round of deworming  begins at 4 weeks old and repeated again at 6 weeks. We do this to insure that your puppy goes home happy and healthy.

Week 7

Puppy Evaluations & Puppy Picks

Its puppy evaluation time! We do these puppy evaluations to get a better understanding of each puppy’s unique personality and see which type of home environment they would thrive in. The evaluation is very important because we want to get the most accurate picture possible, for both our puppies and our families so we can find the perfect match for you and your family. It is equally important to remember that puppies can, and do, change, and their life experiences will shape and mold them.

After the evaluations are finished, its time for puppy picks. Each puppy will have their own video and score card that will be provided to everyone on the reservation list. Each family will have a 30-45 minute video appointment to meet the puppies, ask any questions about the temperament testing and choose the puppies that they are interested in seeing on go home day.
